Up and rolled at 7am this morning. Didn’t sleep well in the Park last night. The wind was blowing hard all night. It would have blown my tent away has I not been in it.
Checking my wheels last night and another spoke broken. that makes 5 broken spokes thus far. I think it’s a combination of the rough roads we’re riding over combined with the fact that since my first two broken spokes I haven’t had my wheel trued up properly. On the bright side I’m getting pretty efficient at replacing them, but it’s a pain that I would rather not have to deal with. Think I’m going to have the bike shop in Pueblo look at the wheel and if they have a good mechanic see if he/she can properly tune the wheel.
Very overcast and windy this morning and almost cold….rain all morning. Reminds me that I lost two of my riding shirts somewhere along the line, so am going to need to pick up another shirt and something warm to wear under my jacket when I get to Pueblo….going to get cool when we get 10-11 thousand feet in the Rockies.
The ride today was a short 51.5 miles to Pueblo. We knocked it out in about 3 hours. I really wanted to go another 50-60 Miles, but need a bike shop and Pueblo is the last place for a while that has one. Bad timing that I’m hitting Pueblo on a Sunday and the bike shop is closed, so am taking a short day today, spending the night in Pueblo and going to the bike shop when it opens at 9:30am in the morning. So, having to wast a lot of tomorrow morning here as well, but need to pick up some more spare spokes, two new tubes, a couple C02 cartridges, and another shirt or two.
Had a late lunch at Brues Alehouse in Pueblo. Ordered two meals—eggs, bacon, toast, some kind of bean soup, and something that tasted sort of like fried sweet potatoes, but was something else—was very good though. The second plate was a large order of biscuits and gravy. I’m fattening up for the Rockies tomorrow 🙂
Living in luxury tonight with a room in the Marriott 🙂
Feeling great, but a little bummed that I’m having to basically waste a day here…I’m ready to hit the Rockies.
