Stopped at the Dari Delite on my walk back to the motel last night after having a fine dinner at the bait shop, and had me a hot fudge Sunday. You’re not going to believe this, but a couple guys having dinner last night also picked up some night crawlers for fishing and paid for it all on the same check….don’t see that everyday 🙂
Up at 5:45 this morning and on the road at 6:30. Ate breakfast in the room…packaged turkey, crackers, orange juice andV8. Carrying extra water and gadorade this morning….looks like non services for about 60 miles. 48 degrees this morning….supposed to be sunny with a high of 91.
About 20 miles in and have been riding through the Arapaho National Forrest for over a hour. Its been cold…the mountain blocking the sun all morning. Stopped at the Denver Creek Campground for a break and to have some trail mix and orange juice I picked up at the store last night. This place is swarming with humming birds this morning. Not many people out here but a guy was driving by and saw me sitting here and stopped to talk. You’re not going to believe this but his name was Robert. Told me he did transam last year and gave me some tips for things to see along the way. He was on his way to a wedding and drove through here to take pics—he stayed in this campground on his trip.
10:30am topped Willow Creek Pass 9,683 feet after climbing all morning. Second time to cross the Continental Divide—only 10 more times to go 🙂
Pulled into Walden at 1:45 with 61 miles down. This morning I debated staying here or pushing on to Cowdrey 10 miles down the road. Now I’m debating whether to make a push and go on to Riverside for a 110 day. Feeling great….may go to Cowdrey and then decide. Eating linch here Walden….buffalo burger, fries, and ice tea.
Passed through Cowdrey without stopping….nothing there. Saw a block building about the size of a two seater out house that had city hall on the side of it. Three miles out of Cowdrey there was a split in the road and I really wanted to go right—direction of the wind but I had to turn left into a strong side wind. My weather app indicated the wind would die down by around 5pm….that didn’t happen.
Entered Wyoming—my 7th State and Fought the wind all the way to riverside….pulled in here about 7:30 and it was still blasting out of the west…my last 3 Miles was going straight west and it beat me all the way into town. But, here now and feeling great to be off the bike. I stopped at the BearTrap Bar and Grill for dinner—having turkey melt, Mac and cheese, and lots of ice tea.
Staying at the motel in town tonight—can’t remember the name and am too tired to go outside and look.
Tired tonight but still feeling good and strong. I know the pics below are not in order—limited ability to edit on this phone, but they were all taken today.
