Up at 5am, and on the road at 5:40. Nice chilly morning at 47 degrees and calling for t-storms this afternoon. Headed to Salida this morning about 50 miles away then will see how I feel and take it from there.
6:30 AM 7.8 miles and I’m at 7,629 feet. This morning I’m riding on some nice smooth gravel into a slight headwind it’s a little cool I didn’t put on my jacket I might have to pull out my gloves. But very nice morning. I recovered really well last night. I was tired after the long day yesterday.
7:32 AM 17.2 miles in nice gravel all morning just arrived at the joyful Journey hot Springs spa. Tempting, but I better move on.
9:45 AM 37.4 miles and I’m at 9,000 feet at Poncha pass summit. From here it’s downhill all the way into Salida.
10:45 AM having lunch at sweetie’s in Salina Colorado. Having a hot Rob roast beef sandwich, la crox water, coke, and chips. Finished off with a huge chocolate brownie. Sitting here looking at my map to I’m figuring out what my next move is going to be. I’m feeling like I need a little recovery—legs a little sore and just didn’t have the energy like normal today, so I’m going to get a hotel and take a half day rest day. Going to be a long, remote stretch with a couple big climbs between here and next big town—Breckenridge—so will test up, get cleaned up and hit it early in the morning.
Checked into a hotel here. Felt good to get cleaned up. Took a 4 hour nap. Finished yesterdays blog posting. Washed all my cloths in the sink and have them hanging to dry. Did some research for tomorrows ride. Eating dinner at Casa Calaca. Enchiladas and a large margarita.
Tomorrow I will make it to Hartsel and if the weather cooperates I’ll push on to Como. That will set me up to climb over Boraes Pass (11,482 feet) early Friday and make it to Breckenridge early in the day.
It’s 7pm and I’m finishing this posting. Feeling good….the short day, and fairly easy ride today has helped.
