Day 25 – 80.3 miles — Island Park, ID to Ennis, MT

Up at 6:15 this morning 49° and nice outside. Calling for nice weather all day. Other than the wind, so far I’ve really been lucky with the weather on this trip. I don’t think I’ve been caught in but maybe one significant storm and even that wasn’t too bad—it moved through in about 30 minutes. Hope it holds out for the next six or seven days.

On the road at 7:25 AM.

The last chance gas station, the only station in this town, closed yesterday and still close this morning.

8:10 PM found an open gas station, got a cup of coffee, turkey sandwich, raspberry yogurt, and a grandma’s peanut butter cookie. Got to be on this road for another 20 miles or so with no shoulder and a lot of traffic—not liking it.

8:45 AM found a little Roadside coffee and milkshake stand. Stopped and got a strawberry milkshake and a blueberry muffin. Sitting by the river watching people fly fish. I keep stopping this much I’m not going to get many miles in today

11:15 AM at 28.8 miles in just crossed over into Montana—my last state. Come on Canadian border…this has been one of the hardest things I’ve done and I’m ready to be home.

12:15 pm and 40 miles in. Stopped at camp grounds for lunch. Two packs of turkey, a bottle of Perrier water, and a bag of Cheetos. Don’t even wanna say it but heading north and a stiff wind is coming out of the north. Just need to come to terms with the fact that the wind is not my friend this trip.

4:15 pm and pulled into Ennis Montana. A pretty routine riding day nothing out of the ordinary. Good weather, the typical headwind, outran one storm, and did an average miles. Feeling good. Staying here tonight at the Riverside Motel. Got cleaned up went to the burnt tree brewery. First ordered three slices of pizza and a beer. Finish that, then order two more slices of pizza and another beer. Finished that then ordered one more beer for there and two cans to take back to my room.

It’s 6:30 PM I’m finishing this post and then going to call it an early night. I’ve got 110 miles to do tomorrow to get the hell on Montana, and that was set me up to be about 450 miles from the border. Gonna be a long day tomorrow, so calling in an early night and going to try to get an early start in the morning.
